Camp Kum-Ba-Ya and First Christian Church of Benton are partnering to host Camp Agape–a week of sleep away camp for up to 25 middle school youth (having completed grades 6, 7, or 8) who currently live in foster care.
Camp Agape combines Camp Kum-Ba-Ya’s spiritual mission of sharing God’s love, community, and belonging, with the emotional support, mentoring, and instruction in practical, everyday skills that youth in foster care will need in life. From the moment campers arrive, we aim for each one to feel the sense of belonging that comes from having a special place set aside just for them to sleep and be. When they leave at the end of the week, our aim is for each one to feel loved and valued as children of God, with skills to live and grow in relationships and in community.
It’s a fun week of swimming, fishing, hiking, campfires, s’mores, gaga ball, basketball, tetherball, worship, small groups, games, life skills, interest groups, crafts, and more as we are reminded that love is from God and that God’s love is an example of how to love others.
